Oman: self-sufficiency in the heat of the Empty Quarter
4 minutes
Oman's desert interior is one of the quietest places I've ridden — long gravel tracks along the edge of the Empty Quarter, with heat that changes how every part of the plan has to work, from riding hours to how much water you actually carry.
Riding here meant starting before sunrise and stopping by early afternoon. The heat isn't a discomfort to push through — past a certain point it's the thing that decides whether the day's plan is even possible.
The route
Wadis, gravel plains, and a handful of small towns spaced just far enough apart to make water planning the main task of every evening. The full GPS track and resupply notes are in the kit now available in the shop.
Gear that mattered
Extra water capacity over extra food, light-colored kit, and a proper sun shelter for the midday stop. None of it is exotic — it's just non-negotiable out there.
